-Don't visit friends with this habit -Try to use your free time in things with "instant gratification" like easy video games. -do some heavy lifting in your "smoking time" (5 minutes exercises) -take all your paraphernalia to the trash with no regrets (lighter, fluids, paper, filter, different types of tabaco, etc) -chew regular gum when the smoking desire hits you. -vaping = smoking, so don't do that either

I quit 9 years ago. Not a single cigarette since. I have had pretty tough times but we all do. For me the most difficult part was what to do with my hands. So I try to have a beverage (non-alcoholic at day, alcoholic at night) in my hand. Or to chew gum, have lolipops in me, or carrot sticks or anything. When I feel an especially strong desire to light a cigarette, I say to myself "If I smoke now, all my labor, efforts and work will be erased and would have been for nothing." as a way to stop myself. Go broke. I've bought the cheapest smokes and got disgusted from smoking. Compared to my usual Camel soft it felt like I was smoking my all day long sneakers' inner sole. I've put the lighter down, throw the pack in the rubbish can.

My dad smoked for like 40 years - if my mum didnt quit at same time he never wouldve. also it took them like 3-4 actual tries before they quit permanently

Buy a box of toothpick. When you have the urge, chew/suck on the wood. Or chew gum. Your mouth needs something to do, distract it. And get a nicotine patch.

Never quit cold turkey. I slowly decreased the amount of cigarettes I smoked, per day. By the end I only smoked like 2/day. Also distract yourself by any means necessary.

Stopped in 2001, been clean since. Everyone has covered the usual stuff, keep busy, have loads of alternative distractions, such as gum etc. I'd just add that changing your daily routine helps and washing all your clothes including getting you house professionally cleaned. Just get that stale smell of smoke out of everything. Furniture, carpets and curtains. Trust me it sounds expensive but the money you're saving not smoking will pay for it in weeks.

For me the best way was to know my weak times. Waiting for the bus was the worst for me. I took really nice tasting bubblegum (strawberry) with me that helped a lot.
